Daddy and Rachael, Day 6

Day 6 started off with Rach sleeping until 9am - yea! I didn't do quite as well, but far better than I did the day before (couldn't have done much worse). We ate breakfast at mom's then headed out around 11am or so. Had to get home to the pups.

We got home and spent some time straightening the house then went outside to do battle with the van. It was a mess inside. So, Rach and I pulled out all the seats, all of the floormats, and all of the stuff that didn't really need to be there. Scrubbed the inside of the van for about 3 hours. Looks like new now. Very happy with the result.

Went to dinner at Famous Dave's. Yummy! Rach's dvd player in the van finally died. Got another. Went home, watched Spongebob, and Rach was out. I can't fall asleep. Sitting in bed at midnight typing on my cell phone. Pretty pathetic. I hope to hell I sleep tomorrow night with Fran back.

Daddy and Rachael, Day 5

Day 5 was definitely our roughest day so far. Not that there wasn't some fun and cool stuff too, but Rach was kind of whiny and I was tired from the start. Here's a recap.

Sharing a bed with both Emma and Rachael is tough. Each of them is a wiggle worm, but together it's 10 times worse, so I woke pretty much ready for a nap. Exhausted. We hung out at my mom's until after lunch time. Once my kid sister made it to my mom's a little after noon we went on a field trip to Straussburg.

Straussburg has a truly kick-ass ice cream parlor. Excellent! We all got some ice cream. After our snack Donte and I took the girls (and Avery) to the train museum. Very cool place - we'll definitely have to go back some time. After Straussburg we headed back to my mom's place and fired up the grill, cooking up some burgers and dogs. It had been raining on and off all day, so we skipped fireworks and watched the ones from DC on the tv.

Rach and I headed off to bed when the fireworks were over. Didn't take long before we knocked out.

Daddy and Rachael, Day 4

We got started around 7:30. First order of business was getting face paint scrubbed off of Rach - I let her fall asleep with her face painted like a butterfly. I know, bad daddy. Then it was off to the mall. I tried to get the van an oil change, but it was going to be a 3 hour wait, so that was a no-go. We grabbed some McD's and headed off to story time.

Story time was fun (lots of singing). After story time we headed home. Rach started complaining about her tummy not feeling well, so she munched on a plain piece of bread and some fruit salad - she felt better afterwards. I dropped her off at camp (it's water day!) and headed home to pack for my mom's.

After camp we headed up to my mom's B&B in Lancaster PA. We stopped by my kid sister's place in York to get my niece and then stopped on the way to grab some pizza. We got to my mom's place and munched on some really good pizza. When we were done we walked next dor to one of her Amish neighbor's place. Rach and Emma played with their little girl, Sarah, while my mom, stepfather, and I sat around talking with the rest of the family. A *very*nice evening.

When it was time for bed Rach, Emma, and I piled onto a pullout couch. I put "Cars" on the DVD player and the girls watched until they finaly dozed off around 10.

Daddy and Rachael, Day 3

Day three started off with some showers and we headed out to get the mail from Fran's P.O. Box and breakfast at the bakery. Unfortunately we forgot Fran's keys so we couldn't get the mail. We did get a nice breakfast at the bakery and ate outside.

After the bakery we headed off to Harris Teeter. We got some grapes, fruit salad, and lunch stuff (hot dogs). We headed home and straightened up for a bit then had lunch After lunch it was time for camp, so we headed out there. I dropped her off and ran a few errands with Pop-Pop.

After camp we dropped Pop-Pop off at home and Rachey and I headed off to the light rail station. She fell asleep on the way over (after asking permission!) and slept for about 15 minutes before I had to wake her - Frannie called! She talked to mommy for a few (as did I) and then Rach and I hopped a light rail train towards downtown.

Rach loved the train ride. When we got downtown we bought our tickets and headed over to California Tortilla for dinner (Rach's request). She had a quesidillia, a brownie, and some Sprite. After dinner we headed across the street to the ballpark. Our first stop (as always) was the jungle gym by Gate C. Rachael started finding imaginary kittens throughout the play area and would bring them to me for care.

Since it is a kid's discount night there was a moonbounce, face painting, and balloon animals upstairs. While we were wading through the mass of juvenile humanity Rachael made a friend - Sara. Sara was a few years older (she had just finished the first grade). Sara's parents are ushers and she just kind of wanders the ballpark as she wishes. I dunno.

After 4 innings we headed back downstairs so Rach could play on the jungle gym some more. On the way we stopped by the fan assistance center to use their private potty (a 4 year old girl is too old for the men's room and too young to go into a stadium women's restroom by herself). She played for a while longer at the jungle gym before we headed off to the train.

When we got home I didn't even pretend that she was going to sleep in her room. We curled up in my bed and knocked out pretty quickly.

Rach at Camden Yards

Rach @ California Tortilla

Having dinner before an O's game.

Daddy and Rachael, Day 2

Day 2 started off great - she slept until almost 8 and was a snuggle bug when she woke up. After some wake up snuggles we got dressed and headed off to the mall. The mall was mostly empty except for the people walking for exercise before the stores opened. We got breakfast at Panera and headed over to the kid's play area. The play area was deserted when we arrived, but within 5 minutes there was a handful of other kids running, climbing, and playing.

After Rach played for an hour or two we grabbed some lunch and headed out to drop her off at daycamp. We were there a little early so we just sat around outside (I couldn't remember if camp started at 12:30 or 1PM). After dropping her off I just sat around in the parking lot and listened to podcasts. We left camp at 3:30 and headed back home.

Back at home I went to work on the kitchen - I'm trying to keep things clean. Did dishes and unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher. Cooked up some pizza for dinner. We played on the computer for a little bit after dinner then Rach decided that she wanted to go for a walk. We walked over to the new park by the house and she played tag for about an hour or so.

Bedtime was a little rough - she was dead tired but wouldn't fall asleep. I gave up trying to get her asleep in her bed and told her just to come into my room. Finally she passed out around 10:30. Once she fell asleep I woke up and couldn't sleep so I sat in bed watching COPS on my iPod until after midnight.

Rach at the park

Daddy and Rachael, Day 1

So, we dropped off Frannie and Ging at Dulles at ~3:00PM yesterday. Rachael cried and whimpered for about 5 minutes until I cranked up "the lightbulb song" (Limelight by Rush) and we had a sing along all the way to Micro Center in Rockville. Rach *loved* Micro Center, especially the aisle with the blacklights, etc for modding PC cases. We bought a new keyboard and mouse (in hot pink, her choice) and some educational-looking game she picked out. Later in the evening we ordered a pink PC case and some "Hello Kiity" speakers from eBay.

After Micro Center we picked up my dad who had gotten a root canal earlier in the day. We went home and made some dinner. After dinner it was bath time, followed by Spongebob in bed. Rach was asleep, in HER bed, at 8:45pm. Around 11:30 or so she woke up enough to wander in my bedroom and cuddle up with the pups on my bed.
